Alana instructing a client on muscles and massage

About Kings Town Massage Therapy’s Services:

With my services, I take a gradual approach toward alleviating your areas of pain and tension. It’s almost like peeling back an onion to gradually manage all the layers and complexities that make up your body.

Your First Appointment:

Your first appointment with me will be one hour long. During the first portion of that hour, I will ask you to fill out a confidential Health History Form. We will go through your responses together, and then if necessary, I will conduct an assessment of your conditions to determine if there are any contraindications, risks, or specific positioning requirements for your massage. From there, we will talk about your treatment goals and what you hope to accomplish from our time together.

If you have more than 1 complaint, I will request you to choose 1 complaint for now so that we can focus on that first and then gradually start working on the next as the first one starts improving. In the remaining time that’s left, you will receive a massage. I will talk with you during this time to find out more about your areas of concern. If talking through a massage does not seem relaxing for you, please note that it is necessary for our first appointment. Because I am foreign to your body, it is important for me to know more about the lifestyle factors that might be causing your pain and what techniques work best for you.

It is my goal to consistently provide my services with your best interests in mind. After the massage, I will assign some home care exercises for you. The home care exercises may come in the form of stretching, strengthening, or any other recommendations I can make for your lifestyle in order to keep you on the right track for your treatment goals. Your first meeting with me is more like a massage appointment before it becomes a massage treatment. It is a collaborative experience that I truly want you to benefit from and enjoy!

Massage Therapy Options:

Massage therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, and joints. Massage therapy helps alleviate the soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain conditions.

Below is a description of the massage therapy options that I offer. The techniques of the Swedish Massage Therapy are integrated into every treatment option. Deep Tissue treatments are my #1 treatment and the primary techniques come from the Swedish massage. If there are no risks or contraindications associated with the specific type of massage that you book, that we can proceed as planned.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is the main principle for almost all types of massage you receive. It is considered the classic form of relaxation and therapeutic massage. It involves five styles of long, flowing strokes applied in a light to moderate pressure or a deeper pressure. The five basic strokes are effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, friction, and vibration or shaking.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues by using Swedish and non-Swedish techniques applied with moderate to deep pressure.

Stone Massage Therapy

Stone massage therapy combines massage with the therapeutic use of stones that are heated or cooled in water. The stones are either massaged over the body or placed upon specific areas. Heat therapy causes increased sweating, improved circulation, and relaxed muscle tissue which in turn leads to reduced pain. Cold therapy decreases inflammation, spasms, and soreness. Heat and cold stone therapy together provides a contrast of vasoconstriction and vasodilation of blood vessels.

Thai Hot Stem Massage

This modality draws wisdom from the ancient practices of Acupressure, Lomi Lomi, and Thai Massage. The steam heated herbal compresses encourage a penetrating moist heat to the body which induces a state of deep relaxation. The 16 different herbs encourage detoxification and pain relief and decrease inflammation while emitting a soothing exotic aroma into the air for you to enjoy.

Pregnancy (Prenatal) Massage

Pregnancy massage shares many of the benefits and techniques of a regular Swedish and relaxation massage. With my experience in treating pregnant clients, I will adjust my techniques, and pressure, as well as your position based on your concerns and complaints. This massage will help alleviate the discomforts that are experienced during the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters.

Myofascial Release Massage

Myofascial release refers to manual massage techniques for stretching the fascia. A fascia is a structure of connective tissue that surrounds muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, and nerves. Techniques used to help relieve fascia tension do not involve lotion or oil and can be a painful or burning experience like skin rolling and pin and stretch.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy involves decreasing trigger points, such as knots, in your muscles that may cause local pain or referred pain to other parts of your body. It can be a painful treatment, but your massage therapist will work within your pain scale and tolerance to help break down the trigger point in your muscle or muscles.

Ultrasound

Therapeutic ultrasound is one of the most widely used passive modalities for the treatment of soft tissue issue, joint dysfunction, and pain. It uses sound waves to penetrate the body eliciting therapeutic benefit in specific target tissues.

TENS - Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

TENS is the use of electric current produced by a device to stimulate the nerves and muscles for therapeutic purposes. TENS is a non-invasive, safe nerve stimulator intended to reduce both chronic and acute pain. A typical battery-operated TENS unit has the capacity to modulate pulse width, frequency, and intensity.

Stretching and Strengthening Exercises

Stretching and strengthening exercises are remedial exercises given to each client after treatment to help maintain their body wellness, pain, tightness, and weakness. These exercises can be performed at home. Stretching is targeted at a specific muscle or group of muscles to improve flexibility and range of motion. Strengthening is done to enhance the development of a specific muscle or group of muscles.

Scar Tissue Rehabilitation

Scar tissue rehabilitation removes adhesion and realigns fibers of internal or external scar tissue. It improves the appearance, reduces pain, and increases range of motion.

Sports Massage

Sports massage focuses on muscles relevant to the event. For athletes who train continuously, the goal is to enhance endurance, lessen the chance of injury, and shorten the time needed to recover from an event. This massage can be performed before, during, and after activity to maintain optimal condition for a sports event.

Relaxation Massage

The primary purpose of a relaxation massage is to help you relax using Swedish massage techniques at a slower pace with lighter pressure. I will use less advanced and less painful techniques. With a relaxation massage, there is less emphasis on working out knots and your deeper muscle groups.
